We had a 3 night stay at the Sofitel after arriving at 10pm after a very long flight with a 12 month old - not a fun experience. So we made sure to book a room at one of the airport hotels so we wouldn't have to travel far at that time of night. I'm extremely glad that we made the right choice as we could not have been happier with every aspect of our stay. The room was pristine, spacious enough for us to set up a travel cot without hindering any part of the room, blocked out pretty much all sound and light (which greatly helped us in getting over our jet lag), and the facilities (though we didn't make use of most of them) were more than adequate. The hotel has direct access to Heathrow airport; and by extension London's rail network; which made day trips into the city a breeze. Something that was a priority with a little one in tow. We opted for the Breakfast Buffet three mornings in a row, and it was honestly the best I've been to. Wide selection and top quality food!! We did order room service one night and it was equally as good. The number one reason we'll be coming back to the Sofitel is the customer service. Each and every staff member we dealt with went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. As we'd arrived late at night we opted for the valet to park our car, but left a mobile phone in the car when we got out. Reception rang and asked if we wanted it brought up to our room which just seemed way above and beyond the call of duty. Very much appreciated on our behalf!! The only downside is the price, but we expected to pay premium for a luxury hotel, and it's worth every cent for the level of service and convenience the hotel offers.

Mad Hatters Tipsy Tea The Sanderson has long been one of my favourite places to visit, for staying in their beautiful rooms and to sip on their delicious cocktails in the Long Bar, so I decided it was time to try out the 'afternoon tea' option as a dining experience. Seated outside in the courtyard, with the sounds of flowing water, starts off the experience as a relaxing and tranquil one, but that being said, some music would be preferable as afterall it is a Saturday evening. The decor itself, was light and airy, much like the rest of the hotel, with water features and wooden decking. Perfectly fitting for a hot summers night. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and helpful with explaining the menu, without being over bearing. She enquired about any food allergies and also asked if we would like to opt for the upgraded champagne option (which we did and later I shall explain why that was an even better idea.) First to come out was the mini cocktails on a tray, which our waitress went on to explain which each one was. Unfortunately the explanation sounded far more tempting than the taste of them. Memories of childhood cough syrup came flooding back to me on each tried cocktail, which certainly isn't a pleasant one. I feel that there should possibly be an option for which mini cocktails you can have, as the ones as standard were less than desirable and on reflection we're a waste as they were left unfinished. This is why the champagne option is definitely a good one. Next out, the tasty treats all of which were again explained and as an added bonus, refillable. In particular, the salmon scotch eggs were delicious, as was the white chocolate truffles. The mini carrot shaped macaron melted in your mouth and the mini, thick creamy cocktail was refreshing and moorish. So moorish in fact that the above mentioned were asked to be refilled, which was done quickly. Overall and for the price, the experience was a good one. The mini cocktails and the lack of evening ambiance were the only notable points that let the Tipsy Tea evening down.
