Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell has a torn collateral ligament in his right thumb. He will have surgery after Christmas and will be sidelined 6-8 weeks. There will be no trade between the Red Sox and the Rangers, according to sources. The trade for Lowell is not going to happen right now.
